Ken Cleary, Director of New Media, University of North Carolina

Ken Cleary is in his third year as Director of New Media for University of North Carolina Athletics. In his role, Cleary oversees all commercial video production for the department. This includes television shows, video board productions for eight sports in five different venues, multimedia support for TarHeelBlue.com, live Web streaming, DVD production, and other commercial video projects.

Prior to joining Carolina Athletics in a permanent capacity, Cleary was the president and owner of RingFire Marketing from 2001 to 2007. RingFire provided video services for video board productions, Internet streaming, and other video projects. RingFire also provided regional production services for PlayOn! Sports as part of its ACC Select Web streaming platform.

From 1993 until 2001, Cleary worked for TSI Soccer, a North Carolina-based soccer retailer. Cleary eventually became Vice President of Marketing with responsibilities overseeing creative services, marketing, and promotions for the company’s catalog, brick-and-mortar retail, and Web businesses as TSI Soccer grew into one of the nation’s largest sporting goods specialty retailers. Cleary also worked on the team managing TSI Soccer’s sponsorships of Major League Soccer and the 1999 Women’s World Cup Finals.

Cleary is a 1991 graduate of the University of North Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. After graduation, Cleary worked for two years as a reporter/anchor for WCHL radio in Chapel Hill. He’s had a hard time getting radio out of his blood, having worked as everything from a producer to a gopher for sports radio stations and the Tar Heel Sports Network through the years.
