David Hougland, Director of Sports Broadcasting, Texas Tech University

David Hougland, who serves as the Director of Sports Broadcasting, is in his 16th year with the Red Raiders. He and his staff coordinate the video needs for all 17 of Tech’s intercollegiate sports, while also producing weekly coaches’ shows for football, men’s basketball, and baseball. Additionally, Hougland oversees the video content on the athletic department Website and the athletics FTP site, the Webcasting of Tech sporting events, production of three video screens, and the Texas Tech Sports Network.

Under Hougland’s guidance, Texas Tech was the first university in the Big 12 Conference with the capabilities to run three video screens from one remote location. Hougland designed and oversaw the installation of the fiber optic network and state-of-the-art control room that allows him to run video screens located in Jones AT&T Stadium, the United Spirit Arena, and Dan Law Field. With these capabilities, he creates the game-day productions for football, baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, and other entertainment events held at Tech’s athletic venues.

During basketball and baseball seasons, Hougland serves as the executive producer/director for home and away games broadcast on the Texas Tech Sports Network, which are carried by television stations throughout Texas and on regional sports networks. He also developed and currently maintains the athletic department FTP site, which allows media outlets across the nation to download game highlights for use in their telecasts.

A native of Houston, Hougland serves as Texas Tech’s liaison with the national television networks in preparation for numerous Red Raider telecasts. He also manages the production of highlight tapes for coaches, television networks, and other media services, as well as various Red Raider Club functions.

Aside from his work in athletics, Hougland coordinates national television interview requests for the University’s Office of Communications and Marketing and serves as the Chairman of the Lubbock Independent School District (LISD) TV Advisory Committee.

Hougland served as a video student assistant at Texas Tech before graduating in 1993. He worked in production at Cox Cable in Lubbock and John Crowe Productions in Houston before his current position was created. Hougland and his wife, Michelle, reside in Lubbock with their sons, Spencer and Landon.
